Eastern States Building Officials Federation January Newsletter ________________________________________________ President’s Message Happy New Year, ESBOF Members! The Eastern States Building Officials Federation conference programs have been finalized and shuold now in your hands. I would like to ask that you complete them and get them back to us as soon as possible. The more applications we can have in hand early, the better prepared we will be. And with Towns and Cities looking to tighten their budgets it would be wise to get your registration approved sooner than later. Our Education Committee has done a great job to select courses that are the latest ICC has to offer and are pertinent to our rapidly changing world. I want to thank Med and the rest of the committee for their hard work. As you might have heard ICC is looking for ways to reduce expenses and has proposed to change the way our chapter training days are allocated. In short, the full blown seminar presented by a ICC instructor will no longer be offered at no cost and the benefit will be formatted as a webinar program. Needless to say that was bad news and left us hoping that this change did not include us. We are happy to report that ICC has made a special allowance and will let ESBOF continue our programs as planned. Thank you ICC Board, especially Ron and Dottie for lobbying on our behalf! So let’s take advantage of our good fortune and celebrate ESBOF’s 60th birthday and annual conference. Sincerely, Michael Santa, CBO Eastern States Federation President www.esbof.org. Sponsors needed: ESBOF will be looking for sponsors for our conference. We are looking for sponsors for our coffee breaks, the president’s breakfast, hospitality room, cracker barrel session and banquet. If you have any ideas for sponsors please send your thoughts along to me or any other member of the board. Applications to become a sponsor will be available on the ESBOF website shortly. Exhibitors needed: ESBOF is looking for exhibitors for our conference. Ron Wetmore is coordinating the exhibitors and has developed an application for them. Anyone can solicit an exhibitor and are encouraged to do so by giving out an application. Please help in this effort! We have 10 exhibitors who have signed up, we would like 25. Tuesday, March 31st is exhibitor’s day. Applications are available on the ESBOF website. ICC Certification Testing Offered: ESBOF will be offering paper/pencil testing on the Sunday prior to the start of the conference. This was successfully done at last year’s conference in Sturbridge, MA and will be continued again this year. ESBOF grants two scholarships: This year there were two recipients of the 2008 Benline Scholarship. They are Cassandra Cattani daughter of Gerard Cattani, of Village of Garden City, N.Y., and Caitlin Leyden daughter of John Leyden, of Providence, R.I. Cassandra is presently enrolled at Adelphi University and Caitlin is graduating this year. Congratulations to both girls and dads! Thank you to John Flanigan and his committee for their work. James Zaconie tenders his resignation as secretary: The Eastern States Board of Directors regretfully accepted James Zaconie’s letter of resignation as Board Secretary. Jim has been the ESBOF Board’s secretary and historian for the last ten years and his presence at board meetings will be missed. The good news is that Jim will continue his membership in ESBOF and will attend the annual conference and help host the hospitality room. The Board nominated James Kennedy as interim Secretary until the annual conference.
